Environmental Statement
Wildwood Ecology understands its responsibilities to the environment, which may go beyond any legal or regulatory requirements, and strives to build sustainability into everything it does.
It is fully committed to reducing its environmental impact and is continually seeking ways to improve its environmental performance which is an integral part of its business strategy and operating methods.
The Company’s ethos is that the natural environment is of equal if not greater importance than the built environment and that the actions we take in developing the built environment should seek to halt climate change and reverse the decline in biodiversity to leave the natural environment in a better condition for future generations.
All employees, volunteers and subcontractors working for the Company are expected to uphold this philosophy and we actively seek to work with clients who have a similar outlook with regard to the importance of the environment and their responsibilities towards protecting it for the future.
Policy
Overall responsibility for the environmental performance of the Company lies with the Managing Director, however, all staff have a responsibility to ensure that the aims and objectives of the policy are met.
At all times the Company will endeavour to:
- Comply with and, where possible, exceed all relevant regulatory requirements
- Continually monitor and improve environmental performance
- Continually improve and reduce environmental impacts
- Incorporate environmental factors into business decisions
- Increase employee awareness
1. Paper
The Company will endeavour to
- Seek to minimise the use of paper throughout the business
- Seek to buy recycled and recyclable products only
- Reuse and recycle all paper where possible
2. Energy and Water
The Company will endeavour to
- Reduce the amount of energy used as much as possible
- Ensure lights and electrical equipment are turned off when not in use
- Adjust heating to ensure efficient energy consumption
- Consider the energy consumption and efficiency of new products when looking to purchase
- Ensure that water is not unnecessarily wasted
3. Office and Field Supplies
The Company will endeavour to
- Evaluate the environmental impact of any new products it intends to purchase and will favour more environmentally friendly and efficient products wherever possible
- Always look to purchase items which come from a sustainable source as indicated by an FSC or Rainforest Alliance Certification logo or similar
- Only use environmentally friendly cleaning products
- Always favour recycled and recyclable items
- Always reuse and /or recycle everything that it is able to
4. Transportation
The Company will endeavour to
- Consider the necessity of all journeys and seek to ensure that staff make the most efficient use of vehicles through car sharing etc.
- Ensure Company vehicles are maintained to promote efficiency
- Ensure staff maintain their own vehicles which they may utilise for the business
- Promote the use of alternatives such as Skype for meetings, especially team meetings and inter office discussions
- Favour the use of low carbon vehicles where possible
5. Waste Disposal
The Company will endeavour to
- Provide recycling bins in each office for the recycling of waste as necessary
- Actively encourage staff to separate waste into bins as appropriate
- Ensure that any electronic waste (i.e. discarded electronic devices such as computer equipment) is correctly disposed of as required by current environmental laws
6. Monitoring and Improvement
The Company will endeavour to
- Comply with and exceed where possible all relevant regulatory requirements
- Seek to continually improve environmental performance
- Seek to improve and reduce environmental impacts
- Incorporate environmental factors into business decisions
- Ensure staff, and those working for or on behalf of the business, understand the Company’s commitment to the environment and its stance on halting and reversing the effects of climate change
- Review this policy on an annual basis to ensure that it remains robust and supports the overall vision of the business
Culture
The Company’s belief in the importance of the environment underpins all of its actions and those of its staff. It will always seek to ensure that it chooses to work with others who share its views and will actively decline business and associates that do not underpin its core values.
Further, the Company is committed to, as far as is reasonably possible, working with local businesses in order to reduce environmental impact and contribute to its local economy and community.
